Working through the damage caused by storm Eowyn

Since Storm Eowyn, in the region of 200 repairs have been reported to Housing Asset Services and over 50 of the reported repairs are for roofing works.

All roof reports have been made safe or inspected and we anticipate that all our roof repairs will be completed by 14th February, weather permitting, apart from where we need to hire a cherry picker. These high-level works will progress as soon as high access equipment becomes available.

We also have over 200 metres of fencing repairs that have been reported. Again, these have all been inspected and are in the process of being instructed, repaired or renewed, we anticipate that these will all be completed by 21st February weather permitting.

Please do not re-report damage

If you have already reported damage to your home following Storm Eowyn, please be patient as we are working through a high volume of repair works and our operatives will get to you as quickly as they can.

Winter advice to protect your home

Just a wee reminder of how you can protect your home during cold weather and what action you should take to avoid burst pipes.

Five simple steps to protect your home

  1. Make sure that you know where your water supply stop valve is. This is where you can turn the water off in an emergency. If you aren't sure where it is, please just ask.
  2. Check the valve by turning it slightly to make sure it is not jammed.
  3. Keep your heating to at least 13 or 14 degrees and let air circulate round your home.
  4. If you go away for a few days, turn the water supply off. If you are going away for several weeks, let us know and we can take action to help stop burst pipes.
  5. If you have frozen pipes please call our repairs line for advice.

What to do it you have a burst pipe

First, turn off the water supply and turn on all taps to drain the water from your main tank.
Switch off the electricity supply at the meter in case water comes into contact with electrical switches or sockets. Make sure you have a working torch handy.
If you are in a first floor flat or above, check with your neighbours if any water has gone down to their flats.
