Scottish Child Payment has now started the new benefit, which is unique to Scotland, will give qualifying parents and carers £40 every four weeks for each child under six. The benefit has now started, meaning that Social Security Scotland is now able to do final eligibility checks and start issuing decisions. The first decisions and payments will arrive from late February. Thousands of applications are being processed each week to get money to families as soon as possible. People who applied in advance of Monday 15 February are expected to get a decision and, if eligible, their first payment by no later than the end of April.
You can find out about eligibility and apply online at https://www.mygov.scot/scottish-child-payment/how-to-apply/ or by phone at 0800 182 2222.
